Books in 2011: What Are You Looking Forward To Reading?

The Millions, one of our favorite literary blogs, has an excellent post on killer books coming down the pike–“Most Anticipated: The Great 2011 Book Preview.” We now have a ridiculously long list of titles we’re dying to read. And of course we’re thrilled that The Millions gang chose Jonathan Evison’s West of Here (pub. date: February 15), which is the #1 Indie Next pick for February.

    I’m certainly looking forward to West of Here, which sounds fantastic. I’ve also already added Michael Parker’s The Watery Part of the World to my amazon wishlist.

    Don’t tell anyone, but I’m also very much anticipating my annual guilty pleasure read, Janet Evanovich’s next Stephanie Plum book.

    I’m definitely looking forward to West of Here, it sounds fantastic. I’ve been wanting to read The Girl Who Fell From the Sky and Mudbound, and I’ve been meaning to pick Water for Elephants up again… I’ve started it before, but it fell by the wayside in a busy time, and I want to read it before the movie comes out. I read A Reliable Wife last year and I love love loved it! 🙂

    I have my eye on The Selected Stories of Mercè Rodoreda (Open Letter), Montecore by Jonas Hassen Khemiri (Random House), and The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine (Europa Editions).

    BTW, I LOVED The Girl Who Fell From the Sky.

    I’m looking forward to reading Jonathan Franzen’s Freedom, John Updike’s In the Beauty of the Lilies, Vol. 1 of Edward Gibbon’s The History of the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire and any Algonquin books at hand. You guys never disappoint (have already read two Algonquin titles in 2011 — both gems: The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey and Settled in the Wild by Susan Hand Shetterly).

    I recently finished Gabrielle Hamilton’s ‘Blood, Bones and Butter (coming out in March), and am working on David Grossman’s ‘To the End of the Land’. I have a long list of possibilities for my 52books project this year, which at this rate might end up being 150 books.

    I manage a cookbook store, so the effort will be to read outside of the cookbook/food memoir comfort zone! Bill Bryson ‘At Home’, Twyla Tharp’s ‘The Creative Habit’, Verghese’s ‘Cutting for Stone’, and Coelho’s ‘The Alchemist’ are all coming up soon.

    Just received in the mail, a copy of Freedon From Fear – Aung San Suu Kyi, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Really looking forwrd to reading this one. Don’t know where it came from but I enter loads of competitions so this must be a prize from one of them. GOOD PRIZE….

    I am finally going to read the Steig Larson series, I am dying to read the Adventures of Calvin and Clay, and I am pretty interested to read the Lost Symbol. Even if people say it’s garbage. Who doesn’t like a fast vacation read?
