Do You Read All the Award Finalists?
We’re in the midst of book awards season, heady times for lit lovers. The finalists are announced and the anticipation builds. Such talented writers, such fascinating, interesting, diverse books. And the big question crosses your mind: No, not “who will be the winner?” More important, “have I read them all?”
With the Man Booker Prize being announced Tuesday and the National Book Award winners coming November 15, you might want to eschew those imminent deadlines. Instead, dive into the bounty of books and savor each one.
Here are the Man Booker Prize finalists listed with their nationality and imprint:
4321 by Paul Auster (U.S., Faber & Faber)
History of Wolves by Emily Fridlund (U.S., Weidenfeld & Nicolson)
Exit West by Mohsin Hamid (U.K.-Pakistan, Hamish Hamilton)
Elmet by Fiona Mozley (U.K., JM Originals): We are thrilled to be publishing Elmet in the United States on December 5. Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders (U.S., Bloomsbury Publishing)
Autumn by Ali Smith (U.K., Hamish Hamilton)
Here are the National Book Award finalists in fiction listed with their publishing houses:
Dark at the Crossing (Knopf) by Elliot Ackerman
The Leavers (this one is ours!) by Lisa Ko: And we’re over-the-moon excited that Lisa Ko’s powerful debut has earned this well-deserved spot. It already is the winner of the 2016 PEN/Bellwether Prize for Fiction, awarded by Barbara Kingsolver, for a novel that addresses issues of social justice.
Set in New York and China, The Leavers is a vivid examination of borders and belonging. It’s a moving story of how a boy comes into his own when everything he loves is taken away, and how a mother learns to live with the mistakes of the past. As Ann Patchett said, “The Leavers is required reading.” Click here to start reading.
Pachinko (Grand Central Publishing) by Min Jin Lee
Her Body and Other Parties: Stories (Graywolf Press) Carmen Maria Machado
Sing, Unburied, Sing (Scribner) by Jesmyn Ward
Happy reading…
