So much praise, so much love for The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving this week, that we just had to pull the book out for our Friday Desk Read:

•Amazon features Jonathan Evison — “Ken Kesey’s spiritual heir, one of our editors called him” — and The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving in its Omnivoracious Q&A blog. Beer and Ping Pong come up.

B&N Review highlights Revised Fundamentals: “Evison has penned a raucous and tender paean to hope, a charming comedy of the not-well-mannered.”(And the reviewer isn’t exactly known for his glowing reviews, so this cares some extra pow.)

And speaking of glowing, here’s what Paul Constant at TheStranger.com has to say: “Let’s not mince words. The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving is far and away the best novel Jonathan Evison has ever written.”

BookBrowse makes Revised Fundamentals an Editors’ Choice, saying “Humor abounds, death hovers, suspense grows, danger threatens, but life keeps bursting out of these people and will not be denied.”

Carol Fitzgerald of BookReporter.com recommends it from her vacation reading: “Very different from a book I would normally read, but it has such a heart that I found myself really rooting for Ben and Trey’s adventure.”

And, of course, the review that kicked off the week of Revised Fundamentals with a bang: In the New York Times Book Review, Jennifer Gilmore calls Evison’s Ben Benjamin novel “funny and relatable…engaging.”
