Julia Alvarez awarded Vermont Governor's Award
Congratulations, Julia Alvarez!
We’re delighted to announce that Julia Alvarez is the recipient of the Vermont Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts.
Over the course of twenty years, Julia has published seven widely-acclaimed books with Algonquin—including the national bestsellers How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents and In the Time of the Butterflies. She is a writer-in-residence at Middlebury College in Vermont and is involved with her husband in Alta Gracia, an organic farm-literacy arts center in her homeland of the Dominican Republic. Julia is a true literary dynamo—her work has spanned fiction, nonfiction, and poetry; been published in eighteen countries; and been adapted for film and theater. Her latest work, A Wedding in Haiti, will be published by Algonquin in spring 2012.
