Our TWO (2!) Reese’s Book Club Picks
We have some news to share. Some big, wonderful news. A doubleheader of good news: We, your friends here at Algonquin Books and Algonquin Young Readers, are so honored to publish BOTH of Reese’s Book Club‘s current picks! Side-by-side selections.
Announced Thursday, His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie is the October book choice, and Furia by Yamile Saied Méndez is the YA pick, which was runs until October 15 (and it’s a great read for grownups of any age). We send our eternal gratitude to reader extraordinaire Reese Witherspoon for seeing the brilliant storytelling and empowering joy of these two novels and helping us share them with the world!
Here’s a little more about each book so you can buy your copies and read along with Reese:
His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie
This witty and moving debut novel introduces us to Afi Tekple, a brave young woman traversing the minefield of modern life with its taboos and injustices in Ghana. Marrying Eli, a man she has never met, could change everything for her and her family. But Afi’s new life has strings attached.
“I love this book so much I turned the pages so fast . . . It’s all about the search for independence and being true to yourself and who you really are,” Reese said when announcing her selection.
Furia by Yamile Saied Méndez
This powerful, #ownvoices YA novel set in Argentina follows rising soccer star Camila Hassan, who must put everything on the line—even her blooming love story—to follow her dreams. “This book will set your dreams on fire . . . It’s fabulous,” Reese said.
