Or as one reviewer has referred to it Hamlet meets Huck Finn. It probably doesnt help that Ive already read one modern retelling of Hamlet this year and it was a LOT better or that Jane Smileys A Thousand Acres a retelling of King Lear is one of my most-hated books ever. I am defying everyone who has loved this book which is evidently pretty much all the reviewers and the majority of the American book-buying public when I say Skip it. If youre looking for Shakespeare retellings try Lin Engers which is the other Hamlet book I read this year .
The best book I’ve read in years….characters you don’t want to lose, and suspense to the end. Thanks!
Just finished this book, and really enjoyed it! I wanted to note, though, that the name of Seeley-Swan school is misspelled, in case you want to correct it in future printings. (Yes, I’m from MT and a copy editor by profession!)
