Dan Rather started the conversation on his Facebook page and millions and millions of us have joined in. Now he’s continuing the dialogue through the original essays in What Unites Us, his reflections on patriotism.

“Celebrate our shared values, remind ourselves what matters most in our great country —and it is great — and start a conversation about what patriotism looks like…The idea here is not for me to tell people what their view of patriotism should be, but to start a conversation. Part of the spirit of this book is we need to start talking to one another in civil ways,” Dan told People in this interview.
