The Great American (Bookstore) Road Trip
Hello to all you Algonquinites, and welcome to the best type of road trip in America—a bookstore road trip.
My name is David Bradley, former Algonquin intern, bookophile, and blogger. And now I’m taking the coolest road trip this side of the Mississippi. And the other side of the Mississippi, too. I’m crossing the country to see the sights, meet the people, and, most important, visit as many great bookstores as possible. I had 33 on my initial list and have already added a few more.
Other than books, I also enjoy planning camping trips that eventually get rained out, using beautiful calligraphy pens to write in an ugly, cramped style, and having obnoxiously long monkey-arms. But I’m a little bit shy so I won’t be talking about myself much more than that.
Instead, I’ll be talking about the bookstores I visit and my dear companion, Lucky the Leprechaun. Gifted to an Algonquin employee as a gag Christmas present, Lucky has survived countless attempts of abandonment (and one lost foot) and holds a dear place in the hearts of the Algonquin staff. His perseverance is finally being rewarded, as this equality-loving leprechaun is getting a chance to stretch his stiff legs and see what books are like in the rest of the country.
So, put on your booking hats and join us for a serious summer journey!
